Prospects of rhizobial inoculant technology on Bambara groundnut crop production and growth

چکیده

After peanuts and cowpeas ( Vigna unguiculata ), the Bambara groundnut subterranea (L.) Verdc) is third most significant food legume in Africa. It characteristically grown marginal soils, drought tolerant, also has potential for nitrogen fixation. Despite that, year-on-year yields are on a gradual decline due to combination of abiotic biotic stresses such as uneven annual rainfall climate-induced changes soil microbial community compositions, negatively impacting security. Thus, application rhizobial inoculants at planting significantly improves many leguminous crops. Moreover, symbiotic well established developed countries improving fixation productivity grain legumes. Sub-Saharan African countries, however, still under-utilise above practice. In crop production, (N) frequently deficient nutrient since it stimulates root shoots growth. Whereas fertilisers can be used supplement N levels, they are, costly, times inadequate, may not timely supply have deleterious environmental consequences. Hence, seen cheaper, easier, safer method N-fixation legumes, result, smallholder farming systems secure. identifying efficient strains biofertiliser production utmost importance communities.

Responses of alfalfa influenced by magnetic field and rhizobial inoculant

Plants are generally subjected to a combination of different conditions such as magnetic field and soil bacteria in their life. The present investigation tried to compare the effects and interactions of magnetic field and rhizobial inoculant in alfalfa. A pot experiment was performed under a natural condition by a factorial design to ...

Some Engineering and Chemical Properties of Cooked Bambara Groundnut

The effect of cooking duration on the chemical, physical and thermal properties of bambara groundnut were investigated. The samples were analyzed for chemical composition, physical properties (length, width, and thickness, arithmetic mean, geometric mean, sphericity, surface area and aspect ratio) and thermal properties (specific heat capacity, thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity). Dat...

In Vitro Seeds Germination and Seedling Growth of Bambara Groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc. (Fabaceae))

Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.) is an indigenous grain legume. It occupies a prominent place in the strategies to ensure food security in sub-Saharan Africa. Development of an efficient in vitro regeneration system, a prerequisite for genetic transformation application, requires the establishment of optimal conditions for seeds germination and plantlets development. Three type...

Evaluation of Bambara Groundnut Varieties for Off-season Production in Zimbabwe

Early planting of bambara groundnuts (Vigna subterranea L. Verdc) in the southern Africa enables farmers to fetch premium prices before the markets are flooded with produce from the main summer growing period. However, adaptation of the crop outside the main growing season has not been studied in Zimbabwe. Therefore, this study evaluated 20 varieties at four planting dates covering contrasting ...
